Orlando is a second home to me. I visit several times a year, and over time it’s become one of my favorite weekend escapes, especially for couples who want sunshine, good food, and actual quality time without taking a full week off work.
If you’re searching for the best things to do in Orlando for couples, you probably want more than just theme parks and long lines. You want experiences that feel good to you. Fun date nights.
A little adventure. Some downtime. And a weekend that doesn’t leave you more exhausted than when you started.
I work a 9–5, so if I can land Friday night, pack in something memorable, eat somewhere new, and still be back at work Monday feeling refreshed, I’m booking it.
On our last visit, we set three simple rules for our 48-hour Orlando getaway:
- Try something new.
- Eat somewhere new.
- Make time to actually relax.
The result? A weekend that felt playful, romantic, and balanced, not rushed.
Below, you’ll find the exact experiences we chose (including kayaking with manatees , a surprisingly fun dinner show, and a guided brunch tour), plus tips on timing, where to stay, airport logistics, and how to make the most of a short trip.
Special thanks to Viator for sponsoring this post. It’s what we used to lock in our tours ahead of time, so we weren’t scrambling at the last minute.

Tips for spending two days in Orlando
48 hours may not seem like much time, but you will be surprised at how much you can pack in without feeling overwhelmed. I know you're short on time, so to keep it simple, here is a rundown of what we did, including links to book activities.
These are all recommendations based on our weekend in Orlando. However further down the guide, I have also included some options for other activities you can swap in.

Best time to visit Orlando for a couple's weekend
Orlando is basically always “on,” but your comfort level changes a lot by season.
Late spring and the summer months bring heat and sudden rain. You can still have fun, you just need more indoor backups and a slower midday pace. During the summer months, the weather can be very hot, so be sure to stay hydrated and use sun protection.
Fall tends to feel lighter on crowds, and you can actually enjoy being outside without melting.
Winter is the surprise favorite for couples who like nature, as it aligns with manatee season. From November through March, manatees move into warmer spring-fed water.
Blue Springs, about an hour from the airport, is known for manatee viewing in cooler months because the water stays around 72 degrees.
Getting around, where to stay, and an insider tip.
You've got three realistic transportation choices:
A rental car is easiest for this itinerary because you're going beyond downtown (Blue Springs and Winter Haven).
Rideshare works if you stay mostly in Orlando, but the longer drives can add up. A hybrid approach also works: rent for Saturday and Sunday, then rideshare Friday night.
For where to stay, pick based on how you want Sunday to feel:
- Near the airport: best for quick in-and-out, especially if you're landing late Friday. I personally recommend The Wave. It's in Lake Nona, which is a walkable neighborhood less than 10 miles from the airport.
- Central Orlando: a good “middle” if you want shorter drives to International Drive and easy access to food and great restaurants. I recommend the Hyatt Regency. You will be within walking distance of Pointe Orlando, which has over 100 restaurants and shops.
- Resort: For a more luxurious and romantic experience, consider staying at a resort. Resorts in Orlando offer full-service amenities and exclusive experiences. They can be a destination in themselves perfect for couples looking to relax and enjoy their getaway.
If you want a deep list of options (including couples' picks), use this guide to the best hotels in Orlando.
Now for the tip that saves the weekend: keep your hotel simple, spend your budget on experiences and food. A clean room, decent shower pressure, and a bed you can crash into are the whole point.
Instead, focus on the activities. Here are my top three recommendations that you can book in advance using the Viator app.
- Manatee kayaking tour (especially in season)
- Dinner show tickets
- Winter Haven brunch tour
If you pre-book only three things, pre-book those. Everything else can stay flexible.
Day 0 (Friday travel day): land, check in, then head to Boxi Park in Downtown Orlando for an easy date night
We are going to keep it simple on Friday night because if you're like me, you might be taking a flight right after work, so you already have a long day. You're probably hungry, and you want something that feels fun without feeling like a mission.
Boxi Park is perfect for that. It's casual, outdoorsy, and full of options, so you're not stuck agreeing on one restaurant when your brains are fried from travel.
It's also a great spot to hang out with friends and have a lot of fun, thanks to the lively atmosphere and variety of food and entertainment.
I also especially love that they have live music or DJs on Friday nights, which can be a great way to kick-start your weekend.
If you land late, don't force it. A quick bite near your hotel and an early night is still a win, because we have plenty of time on Saturday to enjoy the weekend.
The weather can be moody in Florida, so have one backup in your pocket. While Boxi Park has covered spaces, if the sky opens up, swap to one of the many restaurants in Lake Nona, like Canvas or Park Pizza.
Depending on when you arrive, you can also consider heading to downtown Orlando, where restaurants stay open later. Winter Park is a bit farther out, but it's another great place to check out.
Day 1 (Saturday): manatees in the morning at Blue Spring State Park, a reset in the afternoon, then a magic dinner show at night

Saturday is the heart of the weekend, and it's also where most people accidentally overbook themselves. Don't do that. You don't need to do everything. Pick one big outdoor experience in the morning, protect your energy in the afternoon, and save the evening for a playful date night.
Morning: Guided Manatee Kayaking Near Orlando (Blue Spring State Park)
If you are going to book one outdoor experience for your Orlando couples weekend, I would make it this.
Saturday morning, we drove about an hour north to Blue Spring State Park to go kayaking with the manatees. It ended up being one of the most peaceful parts of our trip.
Seeing manatees in the wild was one of those “okay, wow, this is actually cool” moments. As a city girl, I honestly thought it was so cool to be able to do something like that.
The manatees were just floating around us, living their best life like no one was even there. I could have sat there all morning just watching them.
At one point, we stopped paddling and just floated while a few drifted below us.
If you are visiting between November and March, you are in peak manatee season. The spring water stays around 72 degrees, so manatees gather there during cooler months.
Weekend tours can fill up quickly, especially in winter, so this is one of the few activities I recommend booking ahead.
We booked ours through Viator because it made it easy to compare tour options and reserve our spot without overthinking it. I also liked having flexible cancellation in case the weather shifted, which can happen in Florida. Click here for rates and availability.
The setup is beginner-friendly. Sit-on-top kayaks feel stable, and the group sizes stay small. Our guide gave helpful paddling tips throughout the tour, so it never felt overwhelming.
One important thing to know is that parts of the spring become protected sanctuary zones during peak season. You will not paddle directly through those areas, but you can still see manatees along the river. Tour operators adjust the route based on daily wildlife guidelines.
And I have to say this. Treat it like you are visiting someone’s home. Move slowly. Keep your distance. The best sightings happen when you are patient.
If you want something that feels adventurous but still calm and connected, this is a really good place to start your weekend.
If you are looking for more unique things to do during your Orlando vacation, several Viator options piqued my interest.
For example, just over half an hour away, you can go on an airboat tour in the Everglades. You can spend the morning floating around the lazy river at Universal Volcano Bay.
Or eat and drink your way around the world at Epcot.
Afternoon: Relax and Reset (so you don't crash)
After kayaking, you'll feel happily tired. That's the good kind of tired, but it can turn into cranky tired if you try to power through.
So block off a real reset. Pool time, a nap, or an unglamorous shower and silence all count. If you want to slow things down even more, book a spa day. Many Orlando resorts and hotels offer couples spa packages that make it easy to slow down together.
Not in the mood for a full spa day? Keep it easy. Go out for a quick lunch, pick up a sweet treat, and then head back to the hotel to recharge.
If you are staying in Lake Nona, you can pop over to Chroma for lunch. If you are in Central Orlando, I like Kava’s Tacos. Their fish tacos are soo good. You can also go to the Florida Mall for a quick bite and some shopping.
If you choose to go to the theme parks, I love to go to Universal CityWalk for a bite. They have surprisingly good restaurants.
Evening: Outta Control Magic Dinner Show for a playful couple's night

For Saturday night, we kept it simple and did dinner and a show at the Outta Control Magic Dinner Show at WonderWorks.
Going in, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it might be cheesy. It wasn’t. It was genuinely fun and surprisingly well done.
It’s about 90 minutes of high-energy comedy and magic, and audience interaction is optional. You can sit back and watch, or you can be brave and participate together. I liked that it felt interactive without being uncomfortable.
Dinner is included, which makes the whole night easier. You are not scrambling for a reservation after a long day. You get pizza, salad, and drinks, and you are set.
Saturday nights in Orlando can get busy, especially around International Drive, so this is another activity I recommend booking in advance. We reserved our tickets ahead of time on Viator so we didn’t have to think about it during the day. Click here to book.
If you want to stretch the night, you can add admission to WonderWorks or laser tag. You do not need to, but it is there if you are feeling playful.
One tip: arrive a little early so you can park and settle in. It is much more fun when you are not rushing through the doors.
After the show, you can walk over to Pointe Orlando if you want one more drink or to keep the night going.
Cultural Experiences for Couples in Orlando
Orlando has more to offer than theme parks, especially for couples looking for slower-paced experiences.
There's plenty to explore beyond the obvious attractions. Local art walks, independent museums, and live performances add character to a couple's weekend.
Bok Tower Gardens is a great spot to visit if you love nature. Bok Tower Gardens spans over 50 acres and features gardens and hiking trails. They also have a bird sanctuary, which is incredible.
You can even go on a bioluminecent kayaking tour. Something that I found to be unique and completely unexpected in Central Florida.
Day 2 (Sunday): a guided brunch tour in Winter Haven, one last fun stop, then fly home.
I am a huge fan of a lazy Sunday; however, we are going to make the most of our weekend in Orlando. But we are going to keep it chill.
We are going to start the day with brunch (because why not? We are on vacation, and it is Sunday), followed by some last-minute shopping. For shopping, go to Disney Springs. You'll find popular brands, smaller boutiques, and plenty of dining and entertainment in one spot.
It's a great spot to pick up unique gifts or souvenirs before heading to the airport.
Morning: Winter Haven Guided Brunch Tour for Food-Loving Couples

I first visited Winter Haven when I was in college, and I loved it. It has history and charm, and it’s usually overlooked by people staying closer to Orlando.
This time, we went back for the food.
We booked a guided brunch tour with Winter Haven Food Tours, and it was exactly what we needed. We did not have to decide where to eat or research multiple restaurants. The route was already planned, and all we had to do was show up hungry.
The tour focuses on local spots rather than chains, so you end up trying places you probably would not have found on your own. Expect a mix of brunch bites like fresh coffee, baked breads, cupcakes, and classic plates such as pancakes or poached eggs.
You also have the option to add on brunch cocktails if you like however every place we went to offered us non-alcoholic drinks.
Along the way, you also pass a few local landmarks, including the site of the original Publix and the Ritz Theater.
During our tour, we stopped at Sauvage, Lucky Kitty, Adler’s, and Richard’s for coffee. Richard’s being inside a library was my favorite stop. As a book nerd, I was super excited about being able to sip a latte at the library.
The group sizes are small, which makes the experience feel organized and relaxed. Weekend spots can fill, so reserving ahead keeps your Sunday plans locked in.
After brunch, we planned a calm drive back toward Orlando and kept the rest of the day simple.

Afternoon: one last Lake Nona date stop before MCO
If you have a little time before your flight, stop for coffee in Lake Nona. Order something fun, grab a pastry, and take a short walk around the town center before heading to the airport.
If you loved Boxi Park on Friday, go back for one drink or a small snack. Keep it simple.
Need a last-minute gift? Do one quick loop at the outlets and head straight to MCO.
Or skip the extras and just take a short walk outside. After a full weekend, that might be all you need.
Getting To and from the Airport
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is busy, but it's easy to manage if you plan the basics. Because this itinerary includes Blue Springs and Winter Haven, you'll want a rental car for at least Saturday and Sunday.
The best ways to get to your hotel (and back)
Rideshare (Uber or Lyft)
This is the simplest option if you're staying near the airport or plan to stay mostly in Orlando.
- Great for Friday night arrivals when you don't want to deal with a car right away.
- It can get pricey for longer trips (like Blue Springs and Winter Haven), so check the estimate first.
Rental car
This is the easiest way to follow this itinerary without having to watch the clock.
- You'll have more freedom, especially for early tours.
- If you want to save money, use the hybrid approach: rideshare Friday, rent Saturday morning, return Sunday.
Taxi and hotel shuttles
When rideshare prices surge, taxis can be the simpler option. You can also pre-book airport transfers through Viator if you prefer to have everything arranged in advance. Some hotels offer shuttles as well, but always confirm the schedule, especially for late-night arrivals.
A simple airport timing plan (so you don't sprint)
The usual “arrive two hours early” rule works most of the time, but MCO can surprise you on weekends and holidays. I like to build in a little extra cushion.
For a domestic flight without checked bags, two hours is usually fine. If you're checking a bag, returning a rental car, or flying out on a Sunday, I'd give yourself closer to 2.5 to 3 hours. For international flights, plan on about three hours.
If you're fitting in one last stop before the airport, leave earlier than you think you need to. Orlando traffic has a way of picking the worst moment to slow down.
Rental car return tips (quick and painless)
Returning a car can be the slowest part of the whole airport run, so don't cut it close.
- Gas up earlier, not right next to the airport, because those stations get crowded.
- Clear out the car before you pull into the return lanes (phones, sunglasses, that one water bottle you forgot).
Take a photo of the car and mileage at drop-off, just for peace of mind, and notes that help.
MCO has three terminals, and the walk times add up once you're inside.
- Check your terminal before you leave the hotel, then follow the signs to your airline.
- If you plan to eat at the airport, grab food after security so you don't have to rush twice.
What to do if you have an early flight home
Early flights are common for quick, we'll make Sunday easier with two moves:
- Keep Saturday night simple after the show (you'll thank yourself).
- Pack and set outfits before bed, then leave only coffee and toothbrushes for the morning.
Where to Stay in the Orlando Area
For a 48-hour couples trip, choosing the right place to stay is key. If you want everything in one place, book a resort. You'll have access to amenities, spa treatments, and great dining, which makes planning your romantic weekend much simpler.
Your hotel needs to do three things well: make check-in easy, give you a solid place to rest, and keep your driving simple. Since this itinerary bounces between Lake Nona, Blue Springs, and Winter Haven, location matters.
The Wave Hotel (Lake Nona) is my top pick for this itinerary.
If you want the weekend to feel calm from the second you land, stay at your Wave Hotel in Lake Nona. I like that it is a short drive from the airport, so you're not starting your trip with a long drive.
Even better, Lake Nona feels modern and walkable, which makes Friday night and Sunday wrap-up simple.
Why the Wave Hotel worked for this weekend:
Staying at the Wave Hotel made the start of our trip. After check-in, we walked over to Boxi Park for dinner and drinks without needing to get in the car.
Being able to walk to several restaurants, coffee spots, and live music made the first night feel relaxed and it was the perfect way to kick off the weekend.
A central Orlando hotel, if you want to be closer to I-Drive
Prefer to be near International Drive? A central Orlando hotel keeps you close to restaurants, bars, and places like WonderWorks, which makes Saturday night easier.
It's a good fit if you want to walk to more nightlife after your show or plan to add extra stops around I-Drive.
A hotel near MCO, if you're keeping it ultra-simple
If you have a late arrival or an early flight, staying near Orlando International Airport makes logistics painless. It's not You're too or walkable as Lake Nona, but it's practical.
This option is best if:
- You're landing late Friday and just want to sleep.
- You want the fastest possible airport run on Sunday.
Quick booking tips
- Pick your hotel. You're on how you want Sunday to feel, because that's when time gets tight. You're doing the full itinerary, so choose a place with easy parking, since you'll be driving to two of the big activities.
- Focus on quiet, clean, and comfortable over fancy extras, then spend your budget on food and experiences.

Quick FAQs for a 48-Hour Couples Trip to Orlando
Do you need a car in Orlando?
For this itinerary, yes. Blue Spring State Park and Winter Haven are outside central Orlando, so having a rental car makes the weekend much easier. A hybrid approach also works. Rideshare Friday night, then rent a car Saturday morning.
What if you are not visiting during manatee season?
Swap the kayak tour for another spring, a scenic boat tour, or a nature walk. The structure of the weekend still works.
Is the Outta Control Magic Dinner Show awkward for couples?
Not at all. Audience participation is optional. You can sit back and enjoy the show, or volunteer together if you are feeling bold.
How early should you arrive at MCO?
For domestic flights, plan to arrive two hours early. If you are returning a rental car or flying on a Sunday, give yourself closer to 2.5 to 3 hours.
How should you spend two days in Orlando as a couple?
Keep it simple. Plan one main activity each day, leave space to reset in the afternoon, and book one intentional date night experience.
What are good day trips from Orlando for couples?
Blue Spring State Park is ideal during manatee season. Winter Haven works well for a food-focused morning. Kennedy Space Center and St. Augustine are also strong options with an early start.
Spending 48 Hours in Orlando as a Couple
Orlando works surprisingly well for a short weekend getaway for couples.
With the right plan, you can land Friday night, try something new Saturday morning, enjoy a real date night, and still make it home Sunday without feeling rushed.
This 48-hour plan keeps things balanced. You get nature, food, something playful, and time to reset. That combination is what makes it work.
If you want to make this weekend easy on yourself, book your main experiences ahead of time. Lock in the kayak tour during manatee season. Reserve your dinner show tickets for Saturday night. Secure your brunch tour so Sunday is already mapped out. Once those are set, everything else can stay flexible.
That is the key to enjoying things to do in Orlando for couples without turning your trip into a planning marathon.
