If you are a visitor to Tampa Bay, searching for an ideal destination to escape the cold, or if you're a local (like I was) looking to discover new experiences this festive season, Tampa is your ultimate answer. 

There are no winter blues here in Tampa Bay. While the weather can get chilly, with temperatures ranging from 57—73°F (14—23°C), you can still enjoy outdoor activities without a heavy coat weighing you down. 

And with so many holiday events around town, Tampa is the place to be in December. So, let's dive into all the fun things to do in Tampa in December.

Tampa in December offers several experiences regardless of your travel style. With a range of activities, from enchanting boat parades to tranquil park visits, there is something for everyone to create unforgettable memories during the winter holidays in Tampa.

Tampa truly sparkles during December, thanks to the dazzling displays of holiday lights that adorn the city. They are everywhere. 

One of the must-see attractions is the Tampa Bay Festival of Lights. Here, you can immerse yourself in a mesmerizing world of LED lights that dance in time with festive music. The light show is absolutely spectacular.

However, our favorite place to enjoy the lights is the Tampa Riverwalk. Every year, the Riverwalk is beautifully decorated with thousands of twinkling lights, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for a romantic date night in Tampa or a relaxing evening stroll. 

The beauty of Tampa Bay is that you don't have to go far to enjoy the beautiful holiday light displays. Tampa's various neighborhoods also join in the festive spirit, with many homes showcasing impressive light displays.

I remember when International Plaza was first built in 2001 (Yeah, it's been that long). It was one of our favorite places to hang out, and today, one of the most delightful things to do in Tampa in December is to indulge in a shopping spree at International Plaza and Bay Street.

This upscale shopping center is a haven for shoppers, with more than 200 retailers, including high-end brands like Neiman Marcus, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. 

The twinkling holiday lights and festive decor add an extra touch of magic to your shopping experience. 

After a day of shopping, you can also enjoy a wealth of dining options, from casual eateries to gourmet restaurants, perfect for refueling after a day of retail therapy. One of my personal favorites is Alma.

In addition to all the shopping, Santa makes special appearances during December for the little ones, making it a fun trip for the whole family. Just be sure to get there early because Santa is super popular.

But the fun doesn't stop there. One of the most anticipated events is Crayola's Colorful Christmas, where Santa Claus trades his traditional red suit for a multicolored one. Children get the opportunity to meet and take photos with a multicolored Santa.

Between the crayon-themed activities, the chance to make lasting memories with Santa, and the sheer joy of tapping into their creativity, the Crayola Experience is a must-visit if you're in Tampa during December and up for a day trip.

For a traditional winter activity in the heart of the Sunshine State, try ice skating at the Winter Village at Curtis Hixon Park. It's one of our favorite things to do when we are in Tampa during the holiday season.

The Winter Village does a great job of transporting you to a winter wonderland in the heart of Tampa Bay. And it is great for all ages.
